6 Myths about First Time Wedding Planning

6 Myths about First Time Wedding Planning

 - Don't Be That Guy that falls into these 6 Myths about First Time Wedding Planning -

  1. The More You Spend The Better It Is

This one falls directly into the reason why you’re reading this blog. It is hard not to fall into the pressure of spending a fortune these days with people dropping upwards of $50k + on a one-day party. Don’t get us wrong, we are happy to be in attendance, we just can’t afford to throw this party. We’d be called “Baller Grooms” or “Cash-Money Grooms” … but we’re broke... Bartender! Another High Life!

The entire point of why we’re here to help is to do this in a cost effective way. You can absolutely throw a kick-ass party where everyone will have a blast without you spending $10k, nevermind $50k.

6 Myths about First Time Wedding Planning

  1. 365 Days of Engagement or Bust

This myth went out with the Reagan Administration. Too many people feel like the shot clock gets turned on the moment they get engaged. As mentioned in our earlier blog post, Dude! You’re Engaged! … Now What!?, please take your time and actually enjoy the engagement period.

If you need to take 2 years to get everything ready financially, go for it, don’t let anyone else pressure you into thinking otherwise. On the other side of the coin, if you want to plan in 5 months and take the plunge, you have every right to do so. Just decide what is best for the two of you. Great Aunt Millie can live with whatever you choose.

  1. Seeing the Bride Before the Ceremony

So after you both spent countless hours together researching, planning, reading all of our blogs, scheduling, seat-charting, food tasting, dress sizing etc. you are going to wait all day to see each other? And that moment will be in front of absolutely everyone?

.....Really?

If you want to be more traditional, cool, no harm in it. If you want to streamline your day and make things efficient you can plan a First Look where just the two of you get to see each other. Have the photographer there to capture the candid moments of seeing each other for the first time that day. You will not be disappointed.

  1. Number of Bridesmaids and Groomsmen Have to Match

So she’s got 4 sisters, 2 best friend’s from high school and 4 sorority sisters. And you’ve got Best Man Bob. Don’t feel pressure to ask your Pizza Delivery Guy to stand in just to make this even.

If she needs all 8 and you’ve got 4 you can totally pull that off -- 1 Groomsmen can walk 2 Bridesmaids down the aisle. Your guys will not complain.

  1. Cut the Cake Ceremony

Hey, remember how good the cake was at your cousin's wedding last year? How about at Frank’s wedding? No? …. Oh, of course you don’t. Because you and everyone else was at the bar or on the dance floor when they rolled that out.

Not only are we not down with the age old tradition of watching the Bride and Groom cut-the-cake. We think you should skip the cake all together. Look into cupcakes or a candy station for a much more cost effective alternative.

6 Myths about First Time Wedding Planning

  1. Rain on Your Wedding Day

Good myth, right? Ahhhh no, bad myth! Maybe? Ehhhhhh?

Broke Grooms Answer: If it rains or your wedding day it means nothing! It just rained! It’s not a good thing or a bad thing!

Just roll with it! (Sorry, Alanis.)

At the end of the day just don’t sweat the small stuff. Myths, omens, traditions blah blah blah. Just make sure you’re staying within your financial means and are getting married for the right reasons. The rest will take care of itself.
